CES2014: Toshiba Introduces first 4k Laptops

CES2014: Toshiba Introduces first 4k Laptops

When the MacBook Pro with Retina display was introduced in 2014, we saw a revolution in screen density that we thought would stand for a while. Toshiba, however, had other ideas. At CES2014, the Japanese computer maker introduced two 15.6″ laptops, the Satellite P50t and Tecra W50t with 4k displays. These new Toshiba set a new standard for computer screens and its time to tell you all about them.

Okay, calling 4k, well, 4k is a bit a misnomer. The actual resolution is 3840 x 2160. However, compared to the the “normal” 15″ laptop resolution, of 1366×768, 1440×900, and 1650×1080, its quite the leap. Its even quite a bit above the 15″ Macbook Pro’s native resolution of 2880 x 1800. While, that jump may not have much an impact (yet), with 4k consumer content yet to be fully realized, these Toshibas would allow mobile editors (like our down Dave Curlee) to edit 4k content pixel per pixel. As you’ll see in the next paragraph, the initial release is more aimed at the professional market.
