The team at Magic Lantern have been back under the bonnet of the Canon 5D, this time to improve the dynamic rage of the sensor.
Early testers are reporting numbers of up to 15 stops of DR when using this feature combined with the ‘dual_iso’ module that Magic Lantern already includes in the nightly builds. So what does this mean in real terms? On 5d3, iso 800 with ML has more dynamic range than iso 100 with Canon… and at high iso you’re getting up to 7% more dynamic range.
As always with Magic Lantern you should know what you are getting into before installing the software. This is especially true with the very latest (not fully tested) updates.
