The new 11.5 EditShare Lightworks release has several major updates including changes to the user interface for customization and ease of use, smarter right-click menus populated with the editor’s export and FX pre-sets, and new playback controls added to the source and edit viewers. Background tasking now allows editing to continue during import, rendering, waveform generation and export.

This is the next major release of Lightworks following on strongly from the success of 11.1.1 only a few months ago. This latest release has some incredible new features including:


  • Support for AJA I/O devices (Kona and Io XT) (Windows, Pro version only)

  • Import, Render and Export as background tasks

  • YouTube export option including direct upload

  • AC3 audio decode support removing the need for third party decoders

  • Fully customisable user interface

  • Smarter menus with fast access Export and FX favourites

  • Powerful new Multicam improvements

  • Playback controls added to source and edit viewers

This is such an exciting release for Lightworks as this is the first time in Lightworks’ history that a release version is now available on two platforms, Windows and Linux.

To coincide with the release of 11.5 and all the user interface changes, we have updated the ten basic tutorial videos here We have also added in Shark Byte videos for most of the new features included in 11.5 here We recommend you take a look at these videos which will bring you up to speed with all the latest changes very quickly.


The free version now allows users to import all professional and consumer video formats natively on its timeline, with the ability to add titles, both features previously reserved for Pro users in 11.1.1. The difference between Free and Pro now is that the Pro version has a much wider range of output options, whereas the Free version is limited to web formats (ie MPEG4/H.264), at up to 720p. The Pro version also includes the advanced project sharing, 3D stereoscopic output, user-definable project locations, rendering and Hardware I/O support.


We have added more ways to buy Lightworks introducing monthly and annual subscriptions along with the ability to purchase the software for a one-off fee.
