Canon Could Quit the Low End Compact Camera Game: In the same way that Video Killed the Radio Star it looks like Smart Phones have well and truly murdered the low end compact camera. According both Canon Watch and SlashGear, Canon could be the latest manufacture to pull out of the sub $200 camera market. They both cite a Google Translated article stating that Canon is ceasing to focus on cameras under the $200 entry point because of the way that smartphones have affected the sale of compact cameras. Instead, they’re going to be focusing on higher end compacts and their DSLRs. As far as the latter goes, Canon is the #1 seller.
Talking of high end DSLRs, we are waiting for Canon to announce the successor to the 7D, the 7D Mark II. Let’s hope this raises the bar in terms of performance across both video and stills.
