Blackmagic Design has announced that ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K was used at a recent Justin Bieber concert in Melbourne, providing all of the concert’s video switching. Blackmagic Design’s HyperDeck Studio Pro, SmartView Duo and SmartView HD products were also used for the live event and recording of the gig.
The event, sponsored by Vevo, was held for a special fan of JB who had recently been in a car accident and was unable to attend his main concerts held in Australia. The fan, along with fifty of her friends and family, were treated to a private concert.
Rapid TV & Power AV handled the live switching facilities for the event with Blackmagic Design equipment provided by New Magic Australia. Peter Morris of Rapid TV was the OB manager for the concert and said the ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K was used with five HD cameras. Feeds from the cameras were switched to a number of large monitors around the stage and then pulled together into a line cut.
“This was a very special night for Justin’s fans, and he wanted to provide the feeling of a full concert but still have a small, intimate setting,” said Peter. “There were 50 fans there and a crew of approximately 30, so it was a very intensive production. It had to be a high quality live broadcast and we had to get high quality concert footage. That is why we chose the ATEM switchers, because it gave us broadcast quality switching that could handle the scope of the event, and they were reliable,” finished Peter.
Grant Villiers from Power AV commented, “We had two fixed, one dolly, one steadi and one crane camera, all being fed into the ATEM. These were all straight shots, without any graphics or effects, and they were sent to several large monitors around the stage, as well as to SmartView HD and SmartView Duo monitors used by the crew. A cut of the show was recorded in a HyperDeck Studio Pro, with a second being used as backup.”
ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K is an advanced Ultra HD live production switcher with 6G-SDI technology that is available for only US$2,495. It includes ten independent 6G-SDI inputs each with frame sync, built in DVE with zoom, scale and rotate, four upstream chroma keyers, three independent aux outputs with front panel control and a large media pool that holds both still frame graphics as well as motion video clips. ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K also features a strong and elegant machined aluminum front design, the ATEM Software Control Panel for complete control of the switcher from a laptop or desktop computer and built in multi view monitoring so customers can view sources on a single SDI monitor or HDMI TV.
